Description
The European premiere of the spectacle, which has so far been exhibited only in the countries of South America. Olga – composed by Jorge Antunes for the libretto Gerson Vale - is the story of a strong and passionate woman who succumbed to the delusion of beautiful ideas. Olga Benário Prestes, a communist activist of Jewish origin, devoted her entire life to the struggle for what she believed – individual freedom. Arrested and exterminated by the Nazis, she became one of the symbols of the revolution.
Jorge Antunes – professor at the University of Brazil, pioneer of electronic music – wrote the opera in 1987–1997, but he could not see it until 2006, when it was staged for the first time on the stage of Theatro Municipal de São Paulo. The European premiere of the performance at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk will take place on October 11.
Olga will be issued eight times from October 2019 to March 2020. The originator of the staging is the conductor José Maria Florêncio, music director of the Baltic Opera. The performance was directed by the Opera director – Romuald Wicza-Pokojski. Hanna Wójcikowska-Szymczak is responsible for the set design.
