Description
Metropolis: Reflections from Our Time is a dance performance inspired by Thea von Harbou’s novel Metropolis, which also served as the basis for Fritz Lang’s famous 1927 film—one of the most important works of expressionist cinema.
Although the novel Metropolis was written a hundred years ago, it has remained relevant in many ways. However, our performance is not a stage adaptation of either the book or the film. For us, it is simply an inspiration—a starting point. We want to show that over the past hundred years, although it may seem that so much has changed—both positively and negatively—human nature itself has remained the same.
Milena Crameri
The choreographer confronts past and contemporary fears related to technology. At the same time, she raises questions about our present-day lifestyle and outlines a vision of the future in which balance between humans, nature, and machines plays a key role.
Milena Crameri is a dancer with the Baltic Opera Ballet. As a choreographer, she has previously had the opportunity to present her original études to audiences in the Tri-City during the Young Choreographers’ Evenings. Metropolis: Reflections from Our Times is her full-length choreographic debut.
The music for the performance was composed by the choreographer’s sister, Dorotea Crameri.
